The last posting gave a preliminary look at the second capital campaign. This post will go a little deeper into the mission and vision of the program, and set the stage for the informational sessions, starting this coming Saturday.
—
The First Presbyterian Church strives to be a community of faith, dedicated to helping people know, grow, share, and serve as disciples of Jesus Christ.
—
Our vision is to provide an inviting and welcoming church home that attracts people of all ages and encourages positive growth, while creating an exciting and dynamic approach, as disciples of Jesus Christ.
—
These two statements are powerful, meaningful statements. The mission defines who we are at FFPC, while the vision states what we want to do and who we want to become. These statements provide direction for decision-making, and a path for us to follow.
We, on the steering committe for the capital campaign, have kept this in mind while planning the program. We constantly ask ourselves, “does this support our mission and/or vision?” These principles have reminded us that more importantly than raising funds, we are here to build a community of disciples, before we renovate a building. We want to be a community that invites others to join us, as we know, grow, share, and serve as disciples of Christ. This direction has been comforting throughout the program. We have held a clear direction, and felt the urging of the Holy Spirit. Please join in, feel the Spirit, and help us celebrate the miracles in our lives, while building on them for our future Presbyterians.
With Thanks,
Matt Janowak

Thank you for visiting the Building on a Miracle (BoaM) Campaign Blog. The main purpose of this site, is to provide timely, complete information to the congregation. We believe that many members would prefer electronic versions of most of our printed communications.
So, for our first post, we will provide a little primer on BoaM. What is it?!?!?!
BoaM is our second capital campaign in a series of three. The campaign is intended to build community within our congregation, while raising funds for a major renovation to the building. The details of the renovation will be addressed in a later post. However, we are starting the campaign on very firm ground. The first campaign (Ezra-Nehemiah) focused on a much larger construction project. It was a $5 million project that would completely renovate the education wing and the sanctuary. At that time, it was focused on absolutely maximizing the footprint of the property and building as much space as we could. This included a third floor, and much expanded santcuary.
We have learned over the past several years that this project simply was not right for the congregation. While it was a wonderful building plan, it was not financially feasible for us. It also received significant resistence because it would modify the historical character of the santuary. For these reasons, several visionary members reorganized the building committee and developed a new construction plan. One that would satisfy our most important and urgent needs, while following the mission of our church.
While the original objective was not realized, we have better learned the needs of the congregation. We also raised nearly $470,000! That is an incredible amount of money. This money provides us a wonderful foundation, from which to build this second campaign. Many thanks go out to the leaders, and all involved in the first campaign. You have helped us provide for our future.
With a solid financial foundation, a revised construction plan, with a budget of $1.5 million, and the enthusiasm of both the building committee and the capital campaign committee, BoaM has officially kicked off. Please keep an eye on this blog, as it will be updated regularly, and we will continue to the tell the story of how God has graced this project and our lives at the First Presbyterian Church of Fenton.
